Important information if you are injured by a hit and run or uninsured automobile in Kansas.
- 1. Every auto and motorcycle policy in Kansas includes at least $25,000.00 insurance to protect you if you are hit by an uninsured vehicle. (note: you may specifically, in writing, waive this required coverage when you first take out your policy.)
- 2. If you own more than one vehicle you get to take the highest uninsured motorist coverage available. (Example: your motorcycle has $25,000 uninsured motorist and your car has $100,000 uninsured motorist coverage. If you are hit on your motorcycle by an uninsured or hit-and-run motorist you will have $100,000 coverage. Warning: if you waived the uninsured coverage on your motorcycle but have it on your car, you will not be able to get the uninsured driver coverage on your car.)
- 3. Your insurance may deny coverage if you cannot provide some proof (other than your own statement) that the accident was caused by a vehicle that left the scene.
