A Few Scary Things that Can Happen in Bankruptcy: Halloween Edition October 2015

Here are a few scary things that can happen to a person in bankruptcy in Kansas: 

• Losing a potential tax refund by filing too early

• Losing a pending claim for personal injury

• Being forced to sell a wedding ring ($1,000 exemption per debtor is all)

• Having to turn over an inheritance if received within 6 months after filing.  

Now granted, these things aren’t that scary but they are good to know ahead of time.  The problems above are mainly in a chapter 7 filing, but there is some application in a chapter 13 also.
